All Americans are entitled to the right to confidential health care. A health center or doctor’s office must be a safe space where patients can speak openly and honestly with their health care providers.
In recent years, anti-choice hardliners have been intent on restricting our right to confidentiality. With politically motivated agendas, they interfere in the clinician-patient relationship in order to intimidate women and stop them from seeking reproductive health care services. For example, elected officials in Indiana and Kansas have demanded confidential medical records from reproductive health care centers. These fishing expeditions are intended to intimidate health care providers and ultimately prevent people from accessing needed health care services.
Planned Parenthood has successfully protected our patients’ privacy against these intrusions. We believe that no one should have to face the daunting possibility of politicians poring over the details of private medical files. Individuals have the right to make personal, confidential decisions about their health care. They have the right to receive the health care that is best for them, free from government intrusion.
Join the Planned Parenthood Action Network and tell your elected representatives to keep politics out of health care. Stand up for your health and your rights!
